O tempora! O mores!

Lesson III:
Accent

The Latin accent was a weak stress with an element of pitch in it. It falls, like in English, on the second last syllable of the word if that syllable is long, and on the third last syllable of the word if that syllable is short.

Two-syllable words are accented on the first syllable, unless their final syllable has already been lost [e.g., illic(e)].
